1604 System Features

The features are roughly divided into hardware and operational. The Hardware list describes the physical properties of the hardware components. The Operational list relates more to how the system works.

Hardware Features

  • As far as possible the 1604 System has been designed to be simple to install, setup and operate.

  • The 1604 system consists of smallish modules that in most cases are connect together by Cat5 cable with crimp on plug in connectors.
  • All modules are built into plastic or aluminum enclosures. The plastic modules mount like standard light switches. Other modules are inside a custom designed aluminum extrusion with plastic end-caps that provide mounting points.
  • No circuit board components are accessible without dismantling a module. This ensures no damage during installation or service.
  • Standard security detectors, contacts and smoke detectors are used. This permits the installer and customer to choose from the wide range of available units.
  • Standard alarm sirens are used inside the premises. A special satellite siren module is used outside.
  • The central control panel is usually located centrally in the building. It contains a battery backed power supply and sometimes a PC interface or master controller.
  • Multiple power supply modules are used in larger systems. These are distributed around the building.
  • Mains loads are controlled by power switching modules at multiple small distribution points.
  • Where a minimum level of control is required the 100 series switch can be used. The 100 series is very economical and designed to allow a simple upgrade to a 300 series switch at a later date.

Operational Features

  • The 1604 system does not require a PC or master controller to operate.

  • The 300 series switch is the main system building block. It provides heating, lighting and security control in a small low cost module.
  • Each 300 series switch controls three mains voltage loads directly and another three indirectly. These can be heating, lighting, fans, pumps etc. Each mains load is fully dimmable.
  • Each 300 series switch supports two security zones and one access controlled door.
  • Lighting, Security and Heating are tightly integrated.
  • The 100 series switch is powered from the network but does not communicate with other modules. This keeps the cost right down. It does provide time delay and automatic switching off of lights.
